Surya Namaskar — Sun Salutation
A flowing sequence of twelve yoga positions coordinated with breathing.
Surya Namaskar is a flowing sequence of twelve yoga positions coordinated with breathing. Begin in a stable prayer position, move through forward folds, lunges, supported transitions, downward-facing and cobra-like positions, and return with awareness. Inhale when lifting or lengthening; exhale when folding or lowering, according to the facilitator's cue.
Beginners may start with two to four slow rounds. More experienced practitioners may use additional rounds when the session design and individual condition are appropriate.
Do not present source claims about detoxification, endocrine stimulation or cardiovascular benefit as guaranteed medical facts. Participants with health, mobility, pain, pregnancy or recent-surgery concerns should seek suitable professional guidance and tell the facilitator before joining.
